You feel the difference on the first climb with a passenger: where a 125cc scooter fades, a maxi keeps pulling — with margin to overtake. The seating is armchair-like, the windshield holds off the airflow at highway speed, and the passenger gets a proper seat rather than a perch. The XMAX adds electronics on top: ABS stops the wheel locking on wet tarmac, traction control covers you on sand and painted lines.
In practice: the XMAX hides about 45 litres under the seat — two helmets, or a helmet and a laptop backpack. This is the bike for a couple riding the whole island: Promthep at sunset, Old Town, the north — in one day, without fatigue.

A full category A motorcycle licence plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). Maxi scooters are 300cc-class machines: a category B (car) licence is not valid for them and insurance will not apply.
