Patong is the densest area of Phuket: a single lane of Beach Road along the shore, one-way Rat-U-Thit and Thawewong — and from 17:00 to 21:00 all of it sits in traffic. Taxis and Grab add an evening surcharge and still take you the long way round via Nanai Road. On a scooter you cross the whole of Patong end to end in 10 minutes at any time of day.
