Bang Tao is the flat, spread-out corner of Phuket. The beach is long enough that early in the morning you can have whole stretches of it to yourself. Villas are scattered across the whole of Cherngtalay — some near Laguna, some out towards Pasak — so your front door and the nearest coffee are rarely on the same road. Boat Avenue is where the area eats and shops. Our office is here too, which is why we know these sois better than anywhere else on the island.
These are the roads to learn on. No switchbacks, no long climbs. Srisoonthorn Road and Bandon–Cherngtalay Road are wide, evenly surfaced and easy to read, which matters in your first days of riding on the left. The one thing to plan around is the evening traffic near Boat Avenue in high season: cars queue for the car parks and everything slows to walking pace. Go earlier, or leave the bike a little further along and walk the last stretch.
Honda Click 160 is the standard choice here. It is light, low and easy to slot into a tight parking row, and most of your riding is short hops — villa, beach, Boat Avenue, back again. The PCX 160 makes more sense when the second passenger and the bag are daily rather than occasional: longer seat, calmer at speed. After availability and the address are confirmed, handover at your door takes about five minutes and a helmet is included.

Why Bang Tao is hard without a bike. The beach here is 6 kilometres long — one of the longest on the island — and villas and residences are scattered across the whole Cherngtalay area, from Laguna to Pasak. Walking from your villa to the sea takes 20–40 minutes in the heat, and taxis charge 200–300 ฿ one way for short hops. On a bike everything is close: Boat Avenue and Porto de Phuket (restaurants, Villa Market, coffee shops, Friday night market) — 5 minutes, the beach — 5 minutes, Laguna Phuket with its 18-hole golf course — 7 minutes, Catch and Xana beach clubs — 10 minutes along the coast.
Local roads are beginner-friendly: no mountain switchbacks, and the main Srisoonthorn Road and Bandon–Cherngtalay road are flat and wide. The only caveat is evening traffic near Boat Avenue in high season — a bike gets through without stopping.
