Chalong is not a tourist postcard — it is where the south gets things done. Roads fan out from the big Chalong roundabout towards Rawai, Kata, Phuket Town and Patong; dive boats and island speedboats leave from the pier and the marina; Big Buddha watches over it all from the ridge, reached by a few kilometres of switchbacks. Add Wat Chalong, the island's most important temple, and a serious share of Phuket's motorbike scene — workshops, gear shops, cafes with rows of bikes outside every evening.
There is no swimming beach in Chalong itself — the bay belongs to boats. For the sea you ride to Nai Harn (15 minutes) or to Rawai and its seafood market (10 minutes). That is exactly why a scooter here is not a nice-to-have: without one the district becomes a list of taxi fares.
For flat riding around the circle a Honda Click or PCX does the job. If you plan the Big Buddha climb two-up or regular runs over to Kata, take an ADV160 or XMAX — spare torque is what counts on the switchbacks. Long-stayers: monthly rental with maintenance included.
