Long stay in Phuket: areas, transport and its real cost

Choose Phuket transport by area, passengers, luggage, licence, weather and parking. A scooter may suit a confident rider; a car, taxi, airport bus or Phuket Smart Bus may suit children, heavy bags or changing conditions. The rental figures below are planning references. Ask for an exact written quotation for your dates, model, term and delivery address.

1. Choose transport for the stay

Consider accommodation-to-work, school, beach, shopping and airport trips. A scooter is easier to park and may suit a confident, properly licensed rider, but it does not remove traffic, weather, luggage or insurance constraints. A car may suit a family or heavy luggage; taxi and app rides avoid vehicle care; buses work on selected corridors. For a household comparing transport, the reference of 5,500–9,000 ฿ per month for a scooter before fuel is a planning comparison, not a universal quote or a promise that a scooter is cheaper for every household. For a useful comparison, add the rental total, fuel, parking and any contractual extras for the same dates. Compare that with quotes for the journeys your household actually expects to take. A cash deposit is a separate amount to have available; its return depends on the agreed conditions.

2. Where to live for a long stay

The west coast from Patong north towards the airport has several different day-to-day patterns. Select an area by its actual accommodation access and your routine, then ask the hotel, condo manager or villa host where a motorcycle may be left overnight.

Bang Tao and Laguna — services nearby

Bang Tao and Laguna offer beaches, Boat Avenue, restaurants, cafés and family services. Check for a marked motorcycle space, after-hours gate access and visitor rules. Surin and Cherng Talay — quieter housing

3. Hotel, condo and villa parking

Do not assume parking is permitted everywhere. Before collecting a scooter, ask the actual accommodation or parking operator:

• Is motorcycle parking permitted for a resident or guest, and is the permission written or only verbal?
• Is there a marked space, a gate, a key or access code, and overnight access after reception closes? Walk the entrance to check slopes, loose surfaces and room to turn.
• Is the area covered, lit and monitored, and who is responsible for a ticket, towing, damage or a blocked space?
• Is there a fee, time limit or rule against leaving luggage, helmets or fuel containers?

If permission is unclear, use an authorised alternative or another transport plan. Leave entrances and pedestrian routes clear. Before an overnight stay, check for drainage problems and where to move the scooter if the usual space is unavailable.

4. Airport arrival, parking and luggage

For a vehicle left at the airport, the official Phuket Airport parking page lists a parking building opposite the international terminal and a car park opposite the domestic terminal. Before leaving a rented scooter for several days, ask the operator whether motorcycles are accepted for that duration, which entrance to use, the total charge and how collection works at your return time. 6. Seasons, rain and riding decisions

Seasonal conditions change the practical value of every transport option. Check the official Phuket weather forecast before a ride and allow a plan change. Rain can reduce visibility and grip; there is no reliable fixed number of minutes after which a road is safe or dry. Stop in a safe place when conditions exceed your experience. 7. Several days away: storage and billing

If you leave Phuket for a visa trip or another journey, agree the arrangement in writing before departure. Confirm whether the scooter stays with you or is returned to an agreed storage location; record the storage address, access, security, keys, fuel level, insurance responsibility, notice period, pause dates, billing, deposit treatment and collection process. A pause, storage, replacement scooter or servicing visit should be treated as an operator-specific term, not a free or automatic benefit.

For three to six months, ask how extensions, early return, model changes, damage records and servicing work. Use a written term; do not rely on verbal price, availability or downtime promises.
